About these terms
Redline Coding is an independent BMW coding service based in Perth, Western Australia. In this page, "we" and "us" means Redline Coding, and "you" means the person booking the work. You agree to these terms by ticking the box on our quote form, or by signing our job sheet before we start work.
Quotes and eligibility
- Prices on this website are estimates. We confirm your final price from your VIN before anything is booked.
- We check your car's eligibility first. You won't be charged for a feature your car already has, or for anything that can't be coded on it.
- Some cars can only be fully checked once we're connected. If a feature turns out not to work on your car, it comes off the bill.
Confirming and cancelling
- If you need to cancel or move your booking, please give us at least 24 hours' notice. There's no cancellation fee. We rely on good faith on both sides.
- For mobile jobs, we'll message you about 2 hours before to confirm. If we don't hear back within an hour, we won't come out, and you're welcome to rebook.
- If we ever need to cancel or run late, we'll let you know as early as we can.
Getting your car ready
- Have the car and its key ready. You must own the car, or have the owner's permission for the work.
- The battery needs to be healthy: the car should have been driven recently, the battery shouldn't be too old, and it shouldn't have been drained or left sitting for a long time. Tell us before we book if the car has been slow to start or has shown a battery warning.
- For mobile jobs, park near a standard power point so we can run our power supply.
- Unplug anything connected to the OBD port under the dashboard, such as tuning dongles, trackers or insurance devices.
- Tell us about any warning lights, existing faults, or coding or tuning that's been done before.
The work
- We code through the car's diagnostic (OBD) port. Nothing is added or rewired.
- We back up your car's factory setup before changing anything, so it can be restored at any time.
- If it isn't safe to keep coding, for example because the battery voltage won't hold or there's an existing fault, we'll stop and talk to you first. You won't pay for anything that wasn't done.
Payment
Payment is due on the day, once the work is done and you've seen it working. No fix, no fee: you only pay for the features that are working on your car. We'll confirm how you can pay when we book.
BMW updates and re-coding
A dealer software update or a BMW over-the-air update can reset coding. If that happens within 3 months of your job, we'll re-code it free. After that, re-coding is half the original price. We can also return your car to its factory settings from the backup whenever you ask.
Warranty, insurance and driving
- Coding only changes settings already in your car's software. If you're concerned about your new-car warranty, check with your dealer before booking.
- Some features change how the car looks or behaves, such as drive modes, cluster styles and brake lights. You're responsible for driving safely and within the road rules, and we recommend telling your insurer about changes to your car.
If something goes wrong
We take care with every car, back it up first and follow a set procedure. If something goes wrong because of our work, tell us and we'll put it right. We aren't responsible for faults that were already there, problems caused by a weak battery or electrical fault we weren't told about, or changes made later by someone else, including dealer or over-the-air updates. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
Photos and videos
We'd love to share our work. We'll only post photos or videos of your car with your OK, and we never show your number plate or VIN.
